How can the Urban Plunge fit into your Campus Evangelism Strategy?
The plunge can be an excellent chance to show non-Christians – Christian community and what Jesus thought about justice. Here are some ways it can augment what you’re already doing on campus.
- Train Christian students to talk about justice and Jesus with their non-Christian friends.
- Better connect non-Christian students who are hanging around your fellowship to community and give them a week of great teaching on Jesus.
- Encourage students to bring their non-Christian friends on the plunge.
- Have a single event or a series of large group talks linking Jesus and justice for campus. Invite people at the event to be a part of your urban plunge.
- Start a GIG centered on justice issues. Invite those participants to take part in the plunge.
- Mandate the plunge as a bring-a-friend week. Priority is given to those Christian students who bring friends who are not involved in the fellowship. You could set the price as a 2-for-1 deal (if you bring a friend you both come for half-price. (The goal is to make the week about half Christians, half non-Christians –which changes the dynamic of the trip.)
- Partner with an existing student group on campus and invite students in it to come along, or even co-sponsor.
- Advertise through your alternative spring break office or other university campus life group.
