Hiring Procedures

Any person (student, cook, etc) not considered an independent contractor* MUST complete the following to be considered a legal employee, and to receive payment from InterVarsity:

*The default employee classification is "Temporary Employee." Independent Contractor status is rare, and generally only occurs if the individual owns their own business in the same field in which you are hiring them.

**The I-9 form, which is a part of the required paperwork, must be completed in a timely fashion. If the I-9 requirement is not met, your employee will not be paid.  We cannot make any exceptions to this employment law.

  • Section 1 must be completed by the student on or before the first day of employment.
  • Section 2 must be completed by an approved hiring supervisor within 3 business days of the date employment begins. The I-9 form requires original documents to be examined and recorded on the form (see instructions included with the form).
    • If it is impossible for a hiring supervisor to be on-site to complete Section 2 you may email HR and ask to be pre-authorized by HR to sign I-9 forms. If (and only if) HR gives you pre-authorization, you may complete Section 2 without needing a hiring supervisor on site. This pre-authorization can only be used for I-9 forms.
  • Once the I-9 form has been completed, the hard copy must be mailed to the HR department at the NSC. Address to: HR Department, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 7895, Madison, WI 53707-7895)
