Students and staff using their own cars to transport fellow students and staff on programs must have their own car insurance. They are not covered under InterVarsity's Insurance policy.
If a program wishes to borrow an automobile from a church or other organization, or use one that InterVarsity owns or hires, the program must receive written permission to do so.
For example, an email exchange between a Campus Staff Member and the CSM’s Area Director (preferably with a cc to the Legal Department) would suffice: “I request permission to borrow a minivan from XYZ Church to transport four Chapter Students to Urbana09” and the reply “Permission granted."
In this case, the driver would have primary coverage under the Church's policy, and excess coverage under InterVarsity's policy, with up to one million dollars in liability insurance
When using a vehicle during a program, the driver cannot be reimbursed for gas expenses. However, the driver can be reimbursed for mileage, at the rate of 57 cents/mile for staff and 14 cents/mile for everyone else.
